Other Characters: Beatty, Iago, Capa, Moriary, Jane

Character Name: Pollux Troy
Series: Face/Off
Age: The actor was 25 when the movie was made, so we’re going to go with that. Mid to late twenties.
From When?: After he is killed when Sean Archer knocks him off the roof

Inmate/Warden: Inmate. Pollux followed his big brother everywhere and did everything that he did. He truly did enjoy what he did- making bombs, creating havoc, eluding the police, getting money for what he did. Even when his brother switched faces and was on the side of the authorities, he worked against the people who used to be his allies.

Item: N/A

Abilities/Powers: No special powers. He is a decent fighter, though he mostly relies on surprise. He also does know how to use a gun effectively.

Personality:With his wire rimmed glasses and general lack of any discernible type of style, one would not think Pollux Troy any kind of threat. He seems more the type to spend his time in front of a computer or in a basement, avoiding the world around him. There is a non-threatening aura he carries with him, that gets people to trust him somewhat, though he does not reciprocate. He is the poster child for the little brother, always riding in the footsteps of his older, more successful brother, Castor. However, this has not made him bitter in any way. Rather, it has created in him a sense of dependency that he cannot seem to shake. He cannot get around without Castor around to help him out. He goes nowhere without him. As a lead character remarked in the very beginning of the movie “Pollux doesn’t fly without big brother.” Twice, in the span of the movie, Castor even had to tie Pollux’s shoes for him. Though Pollux was a little embarrassed by this show, the two men seemed as if this was not a new occurrence. Pollux is almost completely incapable of taking care of himself. About the only thing he can do dress himself, like most men in their late twenties, but he does it with the characteristic grace of a man who has no concept of the world around him and what it takes to get by.

Luckily for him, he has never had to worry much about the world. His brother has always been there for him and has kept danger from him at all possible. Hiring bodyguards, keeping him from hurting himself and to keep other people from finding him. Not that Pollux seems to mind this, of course. He wants to branch out and be independent sometimes, but he doesn’t quite do it right and he’s very well aware of that. Which is why he almost welcomes the help. Castor always shifts the blame from Pollux to the guards, and that keeps Pollux under the impression that he can get away with anything. His brother loves him and wouldn’t let anything happen to him. Pollux is almost as famous as his big brother, in that the authorities are quite aware of the relationship they have with each other and have tried to use that to get at Castor.

But Pollux is not just a lead weight around his brother’s neck. In fact, Pollux could be described as the ultimate sidekick. The perfect person to play second fiddle. He doesn’t mind staying in the background and, in fact, prefers to do so. It’s easier to stay in the background and let someone else take the heat. It’s easier to do so and it’s less responsibility. He doesn’t have the charisma to do what his brother does and he just doesn’t have the will for it. He likes the good life and prefers his life of crime, but it doesn’t mean that he wants to work too hard for it. Or that he wants to risk having it all taken away. And, even when it is, he doesn’t seem too upset about it. Pollux is the type to just go with what happens. He’s not even fazed when he’s thrown into jail, as he seems to have adjusted to the life in prison very well by the time Archer disguised as Castor arrives. He doesn’t want to lead anything and he doesn’t want to try and get ahead. He caters to his brother’s every whim, doing all kinds of jobs for him, including building a bomb that would level Los Angeles.

It is brains that get him by. His precision and “exactness”…his ability to know when to stay out of the way…those are products of his mind. He has great intelligence that keeps him both useful and dangerous. He has great knowledge of electronics and computers (though ancient early-90s computers) but mostly uses that knowledge for nefarious purposes. He prefers to spend his time making things, if only because it keeps him from having to interact with other people. He’s very awkward around people, though he would rather go quiet than to actually speak. He admires the way that his brother handles himself, though, and, while he knows it won’t happen, he almost wants to be that kind of person. The suave, charming, charismatic man who can have anyone he wants and anything he wants.

This level of loyalty extends only to that one person. And he is VERY loyal to his brother. To him, there is no one else worth following. The hero worship he has for him is almost to the point of an obsession, but he keeps most of it to himself. Castor, however, senses that in his brother and, though the love that he has for Pollux is real, as evidenced by his passionate reaction to Pollux’s death, it was also escalated by the fact that Pollux was, basically, his pet. Pollux knew this and used that to his own advantage, as well. Without Castor, Pollux would be nothing. A life of petty crime, maybe, and then most of his life in jail or living in a ratty apartment, writing code for the rest of his life. It’s not the life that he wants. Castor can give him that.

And Pollux, who is diagnosed as a paranoid sociopath and takes medication for that very reason, will do whatever he can to make him happy. The paranoia keeps him from doing anything more than playing or laughing at anyone else. He doesn’t believe anyone else, doesn’t trust anyone else, and certainly doesn’t get along well with others. This won’t translate well on the barge at first. He will be highly suspicious and nervous around other people and won’t adjust quickly to this new lifestyle. Especially when there’s no Castor to tell him what to do and how to do it. But he has been in jail before and so if he keeps that mentality, then he will be able to cope. Once he realizes where he is and starts to believe the truth, then he’ll set off looking for other people to follow and to get in on their schemes, just to feel wanted and useful again.

He will also not remember being on the barge at all. I will be bringing him in with complete barge amnesia.

Path to Redemption: Pollux will never get out of his paranoia and will not trust a warden- or any person- easily. However, he does need to get away from his dependency on other people. Learning to take care of himself, realizing that he can make his own decisions, is VITAL. He cannot be a sidekick and be redeemed. He must learn to stand on his own feet. Once he does that, he can finally begin to see that he didn’t HAVE to do everything Castor wanted him to. To do this, a warden must give him responsibilities that only he can carry out, as well as give him opportunities to take consequences for his actions- whether positive or negative. Pollux will inevitably try to seek out someone to hide behind, or several someones, while on the barge. And, at first, that behavior will not be detrimental, and in fact might help him, as he also needs to learn to break away from a person like that so that he can have those skills when he does graduate.

History:

Though it states in canon that the location of their actual hometown is unknown, it can be assumed that the brothers grew up somewhere around Los Angeles, or at least still in California. Not much else is known or said about their childhood, but they were close, even then. They grew up together, with Castor as the lead and Pollux at his side. Castor fell into crime early and Pollux moved into line beside him without question, doing his bidding as they continued their little sprees throughout California. It wasn’t until Pollux attached Sean Archer, shooting him and wounding him but unintentionally killing his young son that their lives became more dangerous. Archer began hunting the brothers for revenge, which spurred Castor to do things bigger, better.

That led to Pollux creating his bomb. They were going to be paid 10 million dollars to finish it, to level Los Angeles, but were caught halfway through. Pollux, of course, made a mistake and Archer came after them, capturing Pollux and putting Castor in a coma. But, Pollux would not tell the location nor the date of the bomb. He claimed that he was doing it purely for intellectual reasons, that the bomb had never been made. Archer knew better. Together with a team, they created this plan to get the information out of Pollux. Archer switched faces with Castor and infiltrated the prison, hoping to learn the location.

Pollux, in his infinite paranoia, finally did open up to this new Castor, though he was a little wary of it at first. He revealed the location in the LA Convention Center and Archer, in Castor Troy’s body, taunted him before walking off. Shortly after, the real Castor Troy woke from his coma and gathered his bodyguards to help him take Archer’s face, using the same team who did the other switch. He then killed anyone who knew about the mission and set off to get his revenge. His first job as Sean Archer was to get his baby brother out of jail, convince him that he was the real Castor Troy, and pretend to cut a deal with him to get him released. He talked Pollux into switching sides with him, confess where the location of the bomb was to the police, and make Castor, in Archer’s body, a hero. But Archer wasn’t going to let that be. He escaped from prison, going right to the hideout of Castor’s friends. It was Pollux who was watching the house then. He brought the call into his brother and, in the ensuing fight, Pollux was killed. Of course, he was not downstairs in the firefight. Castor made sure to keep him out of harm’s way. But when he saw Archer in his brother’s body, Pollux took off after him, falling through the glass roof when his attempts at revenge failed. Movie Wiki

Sample Journal Entry: Just what I had before on his app. If you need new ones, I can provide new ones.

This place reminds me of something Dietrich would have thrown together. Or Sasha. The decoration has their stench all over it.

Maybe they are dead, too. One can only hope.

[A bit of a pause.]

What is this place? If this is Hell, I think the men at the church were greatly mistaken. Where is the hellfire and brimstone? It would add something nice.

Sample RP:
Pollux adjusted his glasses on his nose as he stepped foot outside his door for the first time. A long corridor stretched out in front of him and he gave pause, his hands shoved into the pockets of his too-big pants as he considered his surroundings. What was he supposed to do here? Was he supposed to explore, wander around? There was no one to tell him what to do, where to go, how to do it. Frankly, that put a bit of fear into his mind. He had come to the realization that Castor was not here, that his brother was not going to save him, but that only made the situation worse. He was at a loss, but there was a voice in his mind telling him that he needed to know where he was.

Without the medicine floating around in his system, the medicine his brother handfed him since he was a child, to keep him calm, he was jittery in the hallways, constantly moving to the side, towards the wall, as he imagined threats around every corner. Someone was always following him, someone had to be. This Admiral he had heard so much about- that man had to be someone to fear. Someone to blame. Someone who…did not show themselves.

Untrustworthy.

Those thoughts circled around his head so many times that they became something of a mantra in his mind. He needed a distraction from his thoughts, and so his mind fell to his environment.

It certainly did not seem like a prison, as he had heard from a few of the others. He was not in chains, there were no heavy magnetic boots on his feet. No bars that he could see and his room was more comfortable here than anything he had at home. The authority figures were, well, not to be seen, and there was no one to stop him from simply walking out. Of course, he had no idea that there was nowhere else to go. He was completely oblivious to the fact that this was a giant Barge- ship- floating through space.
